Cozy Kezar Afternoon
On this first chilly day of fall the air was still. My canoe drifted closer to the shore, and I caught a hint of wood burning.

Moonrise at the Lake
This was made with a total of nine images, and is one of the most technically complicated panoramas that I have made.
Images were made with a Hasselblad ArcBody camera and 45mm Rodenstock Apo-Grandagon lens, and a Hasselblad 503CW camera and Zeiss 350mm CFE Tele-Superachromat lens with Teleconverter APO 1.4XE extender. The same Imacon V96C back was used on both cameras.
Eight square horizontal images were made with the ArcBody. Four were exposed for the sky, and four were exposed for the trees and foreground. The 503CW was used for one image of the moon. All images were stitched together with Photoshop.

Lighthouse from Herrick Cove
Focused on driving, I approached Lake Sunapee as dark clouds formed rapidly as if a movie animation. A column of dust formed in front of me and I slowed down. Wham! A blinding pink-white lightning bolt and a sharp short crack of thunder shook my bones. I thought, "Okay, okay, I got the message! I'll stop and see."

I set up my camera gear and waited about five minutes for this to come together in front of me.

Simply Elegant
A mix of gentle rain and snow was alternating with warm gusts of earth aromas that engulfed me while I set up my camera. Suddenly, Arctic wind-whipped hail stung my face and ricocheted off my car with sharp loud cracks. Ice began forming on my tripod legs. Rather than risk damage to my camera and lens, I decided this beautiful scene would have to be just a memory, and started to pack-up.

A noisy hail barrage began. After two minutes it stopped abruptly, replaced by silence. Soft drizzle and fog filled the air. Rain held off just long enough for me to reset the camera and capture just this one image. I yelled 'Thank you!' to the sky.

Soft Light
This was our first full-day tease of spring, when we peel off layers of clothing, and put them all back on, half a dozen times over a half mile walk... blue ice cracking open to the dark pond below as thick fog faintly blushes from the setting sun.

Harbor Glow
I was eating in the restaurant across from Newbury Harbor. Half way through my meal, the book I was reading took on a warm tint. I looked up and saw the room was flooded with the same color. I glanced out the big picture windows and knew I had to capture it. I left my meal at the table, ran out the door and pulled my photography gear out of the car, just in time. I left a nice tip.

Winter Moon
My ephemeris said the moon would rise in the middle of the valley on March 26 at 6:45 p.m. I snowshoed with my gear to this perfect spot just in time. The air was spectacular.

Muster Field Moonrise Panorama
It was windy at Muster Field Farm as this October full moon pushed through hazy clouds above Mount Kearsarge. Behind me the sun spread across the horizon, making the field look like a game 'under the lights' was about to begin.

Winter Lace
This late February snow was the first major storm of the winter. The humidity and temperature were just right for the snow and ice to stick to branches, but still light enough to snow-blow driveways and paths with ease. Everyone was delighted.

Lake Moon
The moon and earth were closest to each other for the year.
This was one exposure for the trees, one for the sky and one for the moon, all combined with Photoshop CS3. Hardware was a Hasselblad 503CW camera, V96C back, Zeiss 350mm CFE Tele-Superachromat lens with a Teleconverter APO 1.4XE extender. It was the center image for the Moonrise at the Lake panorama further up this column.
It Stormed 'til Sunset
Twenty minutes after I got my canoe on the water, the sky filled with clouds and it poured heavily for about 20 minutes... then stopped completely for 20 minutes and then poured again... then off and on until the sun set.

This is the first image that I made here, and it still epitomizes rural New Hampshire for me... old and comfortable, but not at all tired.
